As part of our 2022 travel trade co-op marketing in China, Destination BC China and CYTS Sparkle Tour, one of Destination BC’s key trade clients targeting HVT (high value travellers), hosted a consumer camping event on June 12, 2022 in Beijing.
More than 40 high-end consumer guests attended the event. With the theme of “Explore BC and find sustainable travel”, Destination BC China, Sparkle Tour and an expert in LNT (leave-no-trace) delivered respective presentations on BC as a destination, the themed itineraries, as well as the knowledge of LNT. The presentations were followed by a “learn-to-set-up-a-tent” program and a sunset yoga experience, supported by Lululemon. All guests enjoyed a great time and had very positive feedback.
During the event, Destination BC China also launched a travel-trade facing livestream program with the camping theme, which kicked off our travel trade livestream series planned for 2022. The 2-hour livestream program received 67K views and 10K comments/likes.
Why did we do this in China? Camping has become the top outdoor activity in China over the past three years. Camping relevant business has grown exponentially and is anticipated to be the biggest opportunity for the tourism industry in China’s domestic market before outbound travel resumes. We believe the current demand for camping will also bring more attention to the outdoor experiences and nature for destinations such as Canada in the long run. It’s also an amazing opportunity for us to bring innovative marketing activities to life in the China market.
