Destination BC organize and host countless events to forge and strengthen travel and lifestyle media partnerships across the province, and beyond. Each opportunity sits in the mix of a well-developed program to create exposure for BC as a destination of choice. The media are an essential messaging channel for our brand story, helping Destination BC to build awareness and encourage travellers to visit our transformative corner of the world.
Some highlights during May include a media dinner hosted in Calgary, and two Great-Bear-Rainforest-themed media events in Vancouver and Seattle. Calgary is an important short haul market for BC so cultivating meaningful relationships with media here is important. The May event facilitated networking between industry partners and 30+ top Calgary media, representing outlets such as WestJet Magazine, The Calgary Herald, Canadian Geographic Magazine and many more.
The team then focused on the Vancouver media event, which was themed around the Great Bear Rainforest film. Maria Greene, Director of Global Partnerships for Destination BC, welcomed over 50 media to TELUS World of Science for a teaser screening of the ‘Great Bear Rainforest’ IMAX film. Narrated by BC’s own Ryan Reynolds, the film feels like a giant window into this pristine corner of British Columbia wilderness, home to magnificent wildlife, including the elusive white Spirit Bear.
After a successful media event in Vancouver, the BC team packed their bags and headed to Seattle for another event themed around the Great Bear Rainforest film—currently airing at the Pacific Science Centre. Over 40 key media were in attendance, representing outlets such as The Seattle Times, USA Today, AAA Journey, Outside Magazine, Seattle Magazine and many more.
Feedback was extremely positive from both industry partners and media at all three events, so let’s hope we see more inspirational BC travel stories like these ones from May:
